Being physical (running, walking, sports, etc.) automatically grounds your body. Walking barefoot is another thing that helps keep you where you need to be.
It is very difficult to ground yourself when you are sick, tired, or suffering from pain. Even emotional discomfort, stress, etc. can cause you to not be grounded.
Getting plenty of sleep, being at peace mentally, and active all will help you stay healthy. If you are emotional distracted or picking up on others sadness can cause you to be off kilter.
Try to stay emotionally stable, well rested, and active. We know pain can be uncontrollable and that is one issue I deal with. I do my best to stay balanced even through the pain, but it is extremely hard.
