Haunted Harry's Seafood, St. Augustine FL

The ghost of former owner Catalina still haunts her home from the 1740s. She wants people to be very respectful when in “her home” I mean Harry’s.
She doesn’t like people being rude or obnoxious. One woman while on a pub tour was so drunk and being belligerent it must have really offended Catalina because a glass of wine lifted in front of everyone and was dumped by an unseen hand onto her white coat.
Catalina also likes to mess with the hot water in the ladies restroom when people get out of line. I witnessed this one night while on a tour when a woman mentioned “I don’t see what is so special about this dump!?” She went to wash her hands and scolding hot water came out. I told her to apologize and when she did the water went back to normal.

Interview with Paranormal Author, David Domine

1. How long have you been involved in the paranormal and what got you interested in it?
I’ve had a fascination with the supernatural –ghost stories and haunted houses and things like that—as long as I can remember, but much of it comes from my grandfather on my mother’ side. He was always telling us stories about the strange things he experienced in his life and that gave me an appreciation for the unexplained and mysterious around us.
As a writer, I realized I could capitalize on this interest in the paranormal when I purchased a reportedly haunted house in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1999. It was located in the midst of a beautiful Victorian neighborhood, and I realized there was a wealth of folklore and tradition that I could draw upon to write books that promoted interest in the area. That led me to write my first book, Ghosts of Old Louisville, in 2005.

2. What is the most exciting paranormal encounter that you have had?
I consider myself a cynic, and any time that the “paranormal” is involved, I always try to approach things from an objective, skeptical point of view—not just because I think it’s the rational thing to do, but also because it makes me more credible to readers when I write about would-be unexplained occurrences. Nonetheless, I’ve had several experiences during my lifetime that defied explanation. In the supposedly “haunted” house I purchased in Louisville, Kentucky, there were indeed a number of eerie events that I couldn’t explain away, such as inexplicable footsteps in the middle of the night and things moving of their own accord. Not only that, I once attended a séance-type of event in an old mansion where the participants used a large ostrich plume in a crystal vase to “communicate” with an unseen entity and the strange things that happened during that gathering has stuck with me to this day. That story appeared in Phantoms of Old Louisville, which came out in 2006.

3. What is the worst experience?
I have had a number of bad experiences concerning the “paranormal” and most of them involve purported psychics. More often than not, the “psychics” I encounter on investigations are nothing more than charlatans.

4. How many books have you written on the topic and where is the best place for readers to purchase them?
I have written a total of twelve books to date, and four of them deal with ghosts and the paranormal. The most recent is a book titled True Ghost Stories and Eerie Legends from America’s Most Haunted Neighborhood.  You can find it at book stores and gift shops throughout Kentucky and in selected outlets across the country. Easiest, perhaps, is to look for it on amazon. com or barnesandnoble.com.

I have a number of projects in the works, and one of them is a true-crime book that deals with a bizarre murder that took place in an Old Louisville mansion several years ago.  There’s a sledgehammer, a body in the basement, a strange love triangle – and more, including kinky sex, illicit drugs, counterfeit money, female impersonators, and a spooky old house that used to be a sanatorium. I’ve received tons of press about it, and you couldn't make this stuff up. They’ve interview me about it on A&E’s After the First 48, Investigation Discovery’s Deadly Sins, and Investigation Discovery’s Hell House. The Haunted Former Carling Hotel, Jacksonville FL

The Carling Hotel opened in 1926 with all the amenities of the day including completely “fireproof” construction. In 1936 it was renamed The Roosevelt. In 1963 a fire broke out inside the hotel and 22 people were killed. The hotel closed the following year.
Many in the paranormal field believe that spirits drain batteries and mess with electrical systems and this energy sometimes helps them manifest. Employees of the current business claim the building is haunted by victims of the tragic fire. Among their claims are electrical disturbances and problems with equipment that enters the building.
