Why I Became an Author

1/28/2019

I have always loved to read. From a very early age I was a big fan of Edgar Allan Poe’s work. Since I was a kid, I loved to write and knew I wanted to write a book, but would would I write about?! Becoming an author got put on the back burner and life went on.
I became involved in the paranormal when I was 15 and I had always loved history so every vacation it was historic places that were supposedly haunted. Over the next 18 years I got a lot of investigations under my belt. Then in 2011 I decided to write my first book and name it after my group I started in 2004, Historic Haunts Florida.
Now 8 years later and 5 published books and 2 more coming out this year...and more to come.
I have a very supportive husband to thank for all his encouragement and of course, Edgar Allan Poe for inspiring me from the get go.

Why I Got Involved in the Paranormal

I had my first paranormal experience when I was about 5 years old. There were many ghostly encounters throughout my childhood and still today.
I was very curious early on and wanted to know more. I read anything and everything I could find on the topic. I later went on to college and studied Parapsychology. It turned into a career and I am so thankful that I get to do what I love for a living.

My Recurring Ghostly Visitor

1/21/2019

Many go their entire life and never have a paranormal experience. Then others have many occurrences. Then there are people like me who have a spirit who visits on a semi-regular basis.
Since my trip to Yorktown Virginia in 2004, I have had a colonial era British soldier, Mr. Baker, visit me.
I have been able to research who he was and learn more about him. He surrendered during the Revolutionary War and owned and ran a tavern in Yorktown until his death.
I have seen him dozens of times over the years and he always looks the same; white shirt with a white cravat, beige knee breeches and waistcoat, white stockings, black shoes, and a black tricorn hat.
When I first saw him, I had no clue who he was but I was dying to know and started digging into historic records. Funny thing, one day at a former job a little girl came up to me and asked me who the funny dressed man was. I asked her what he looked like and she told me,"His pants look funny and are too short and he is wearing knee socks." I asked her what color his clothes were and she said, "It's kinda brown and his jacket matches his pants. He also has a triangle hat on, it looks funny." I asked the girl who appeared to be around 5 or 6 years old what he was doing and she told me, "Oh, just watching, he smiled and nodded his head. He said he wants to make sure you're ok." I assured the little girl he was my friend and he wouldn't hurt anyone. She replied, " I know, he's nice."
I have to admit, it made me feel go to know that someone else saw him. He always seems to show up at key times, either when I am getting ready to go home to Virginia for a few days or when I am really needing reminders of home. I often wonder if he is trying to get me to move back to Virginia?!

I have a few mentors in the paranormal field. I am old school so they aren't necessarily on television anymore but there books are so full of knowledge.
1. Hans Holzer
2. Loyd Auerbach
3. John Zaffis
4. Barry Taff
Please look for their books are your local book store or library. A wealth of knowledge in withing the pages of their books. Some of the techniques they use in the books may be old school but they are still extremely useful.

Electrical Storms & the Paranormal

We have touched on this before, electrical storms and the paranormal. Many have studied paranormal activity during an electrical storm and many of us have noticed we do have more activity during a storm. Grant it, it wrecks havoc on an EVP session but we have captured more interested video, still photos, equipment readings, and personal experiences.
When conducting a paranormal investigation, always note the weather conditions, the moon phase, and if near the water if it is low or high tide. All these things can potentially make a difference.

Reenacting and the Paranormal

1/4/2019

Many know I have been involved in the paranormal for 25 years but I have had an interest in the topic much longer. Many of you don't know that I have been involved with historical reenactments for even longer. I LOVE history and I LOVE ghosts, hence the name Historic Haunts.
Over the years I have been asked if I have had experiences during reenactments, the answer is YES! If you are in a building from the 1770's and wearing the proper colonial attire at a haunted locations, you are more likely to experience a spirit from that period than if you were wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt. I believe they see a connection.
I think when reenactors are dressed to whatever period the spirit is from, the spirit or host may be more inclined to materialize or interact then when someone is wearing modern day attire. I have had dozens experiences when in period clothing, it all depends on where you are and the spirits you are dealing with.

Happy Hauntings,

I joined the Rhine Research Center because it is great to be involved with other like minded people trying to gain answers to the paranormal, psychic research, and more.
There are very few reputable organizations around today and the Rhine is at the top of the list.
