Historic Haunts Investigations had back to back investigations on October 18th and 19th, 2013. It all started in Green Cove Springs at the Old Clay County Courthouse, then Ginger's Place at Jacksonville Beach Florida.

Arguments About Spirits/Apparitions/Ghosts

Many people have asked me why they have seen ghosts or the spirits of people who lived hundreds of years ago that are as tall as we are today. It is a known fact that over the centuries humans on average are taller and stronger than those from by gone days. Just because most people were shorter doesn’t me everyone was.

George Washington (1732-1799), for instance, was between 6’1 and 6”2 as was Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826). Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) was nearly 6’4 and if you want to go back further than these men, then we can go back to Sir William Wallace who lived from 1272-1305. He was reported to be well over 6’ tall as well. The infamous pirate, Blackbeard (1680-1718) was well over 6’ tall as well. The Timucua Indians, who were known to be very tall, even documented at 6’7 in height. I personally experienced a spirit of a Timucua Indian warrior and he was taller than my door frame at my old apartment which was reportedly built on an Indian burial ground.

Another reason some spirits from so long ago appear to be taller than expected is because of their self-worth or opinion of themselves. It is a proven fact that people who had high opinions of themselves or were confident in life may appear to stand taller or be more attractive in their afterlives. Others who had little or low self-esteem may appear smaller or even as a blob or mass of nothing.

Leading parapsychologists have thought this for years. Spirits who thought there were bad asses in life may appear to be a bad ass in death. It is interesting how we can control some things when we are in limbo or on the other side.

Another reason some spirits may be only seen as a black mass, dark shadows, or masses is because they don’t have the strength to materialize any further than that. It doesn’t mean they are evil or demonic. They just might not have the energy to be any more than that.

Now, getting back to the height topic, another less scientific fact is because of newer buildings or remodeled old one. Residual energy doesn’t see change in locations and frankly doesn’t care because they are just residual energy. They are like a video look that keeps replaying itself over and over whether anyone is there or not.

If a spirit from the 1600s is still haunting a location where it once lived and its home is no longer there, the new structure could be higher off the ground than the one that once stood here. This could make the spirit appear shorter because the floor is higher or vice versa if the building is lower than the one before. This could also be why you may see a spirit from the knees up.

How I Choose Locations For My Books

A lot of people have asked me how I choose locations for my books. Well, there are a few things that help me with this.

First, personal experiences I have had in the past, either when visiting a location on a trip or an investigation. Some experiences are from my childhood and some are much more recent.

Second, stories that have been shared with my by friends and others that I am able to validate with other people experiencing the same events. So many people have had paranormal experiences, it is amazing! Paranormal television shows have really helped people open up and talk about the topic that never would have done so before ghosts took over the tv.

Thirdly, I also choose locations by picking them from my “bucket list”. There are many locations I have yet to travel to that are haunted and I have and will include them in my books. A few upcoming locations that I have been to or investigated are; Gettysburg, Lizzie Borden’s House, and Eastern State Penitentiary. I have yet to visit Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow, the Hotel Del Coronado, Knickerbocher in Los Angeles, Chillingham Castle, and so many more, but when I start on the future books they will sure to be in there.

I truly love what I do and love writing about the paranormal. It is so much fun when people read my books and write in and tell me what they have experienced at the locations. Keep writing it! I love hearing the feedback and your ghostly encounters!

Jamie Pearce & Adopt-A-Highway Program

Jamie Pearce and her Historic Haunts Investigations team did their first litter pick up today with the Adopt-A-Highway Program. Great weather and a good response from the community. Jamie is all about keeping mother earth clean. She says "It's the only one we have, and someone has to do it. Us!"
The portion of highway Historic Haunts Investigations cleans is on Beach Blvd. in Jacksonville Beach Florida, and no surprise, there are two cemeteries along the route.
